|
APSTAR I, a Boeing BSS-376 model, was launched in July 1994 by a Long March 3 launch vehicle from Xichang, China. APSTAR I was placed into geostationary orbit at 138 degrees East and has a footprint that covers China, Japan and Southeast Aisa, reaching as far south as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
APSTAR I has 24 C-band transponders which are used for a number of communications services, such as regional television broadcasting, telephone, facsimile and data transmission. The satellite allows the transmission and distribution of television broadcasting signals without any intermediate service station.
